What does it mean to be an IBSMA member?
As a member of the International Business Software Managers Association (IBSMA) you are part of the world's largest nonprofit association of IT professionals who manage business-application software. Members of the association include IT asset, software, configuration and IT service management professionals. IBSMA estimates the community of software asset managers to be more than 10,000, with practitioners in commercial, non-profit and government organizations worldwide.

IBSMA knows that IT asset management (ITAM) and software asset management are cross-functional, multi-disciplinary practices with a unique way of looking at the financial and operational tasks associated with managing the life cycle of IT assets. We know what it takes to be a successful SAM practitioner.

Mission and objectives
IBSMA's primary business is education, training and community outreach to increase awareness and promote the responsible use of software in business, education and government organizations. IBSMA is not involved with antipiracy enforcement activities and its programs are funded by dues and registration fees.

IBSMA is a nonprofit association organized under the laws of the State of Michigan in the U.S.A. Representing a community of diverse interests, IBSMA lobbies software publishers, trade associations and others advocating policies, practices and issues consistent with the members’s interests.

It pays to belong to a focused organization like IBSMA. Our mission and agenda include:

> Establishing standards for software management and assessment
> Working with discovery-tool providers to develop standards for reporting software titles
> Developing a book of SAM best practices and processes
> Supporting a forum and means to communicate with software publishers and associations
> Creating and delivering courseware and professional credentials
> Reducing the cost of compliance and the cost of procuring and managing business software

The association's bylaws are being revised and will be published in mid-2009. Contact us if you have questions on the bylaws.

Board of directors and association management
The association is run by a board of directors composed of voting members and industry experts. The directors serve rotating terms and may serve as leaders of various member-run committees.

The board of directors meets at least four times per year with one meeting at the associations annual conference, SAM Summit. At least one meeting will be held in Europe each year.

ECP Media, an independent publisher and conference producer covering IT asset, software and service management, manages the association's business, marketing and administration. Leveraging its 6,000-strong subscriber base, ECP is well suited to support the activities of this innovative organization.
