Assessing Software Asset Management Processes (according to ISO/IEC 19770-1) PCSAM
Course level: Practitioners’ Certificate Course

Demonstrate your software asset management (SAM) competence by earning the Practitioners’ Certificate in Assessing Software Asset Management Processes (PCSAM).

Assessing SAM processes according to ISO/IEC 19770-1 is for moderate to experienced software asset management professionals and others who want to learn practical approaches to assessing and implementing SAM programs and practices according to the international standard ISO/IEC 19770-1. This course will help you understand and apply the standard with a results-oriented team-learning approach to creating policies, processes and procedures in six process areas.

We’ll show you how to conduct a high-level SAM-process assessment using ISO/IEC 19770-1 as a framework. At the completion of this course, you’ll come away with a foundation in ISO/IEC 19770-1 principles, the ability to conduct a gap analysis and self-assessment and know how SAM processes fit in the ITIL framework.

Following an introduction and review of 19770-1, process areas and assessment methods. we’ll guide you through an in-depth look at six areas: control environment, planning and implementation process, inventory processes, verification and compliance, operations management and interfaces, life-cycle process interfaces.

Upon completion of the session students may take the optional certification exam. Students passing the test will receive IBSMA’s PCSAM certificate. Course datasheet

The course runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. both days. The optional two-hour exam will be given on the second day. Space is limited to 12 people. If the minimum number of registrations is not attained we may cancel or defer this class. We are not responsible for travel-related expenses incurred in the event of a change.

The course fee includes a charge of $250 to cover licensed ECP and ISO materials. All attendees will receive a copy of ISO/IEC 19770-1 and 15504-3 (paper and PDF) and presentation materials (paper copy only, PDF not available). The self-assessment guide and tool are available for purchase separately.

PCSLM Certification

Practitioners Certificate in Software License Management (PCSLM)
Course level: Practitioners Certificate Course

Demonstrate your software license asset management (SLM) competence by earning the Practitioners Certificate in Software License Management (PCSLM). PCSLM is for IT pros, consultants and corporate staff who want to learn the basics of software license compliance and how to conduct a self-audit.

This course will help you understand the fundamentals of auditing and compliance, how to assess your software-management proficiency and develop a business case for compliance. We’ll show you how to conduct a high-level compliance review and plan and manage an external audit.

At the completion of this course, you’ll come away with a foundation in software license management principles and the ability to conduct a gap analysis and self-assessment. We’ll guide you through an in-depth look at six areas: auditing and compliance basics, software licenses, assessing your SAM proficiency, business case and tools, managing an external audit, planning and executing an audit. Although this course has no prerequisites, students should have an understanding of the benefits and purpose of a SAM program and basic knowledge of software contract terms and conditions. Prior experience with project planning and a fundamental understanding of IT service management is helpful, but not required.

The course length is one day and runs from 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. The optional one-hour exam will be given at the end of the day. Space is limited to 20 people. If the minimum number of registrations is not attained we may cancel or defer this class. We are not responsible for travel-related expenses incurred in the event of a change.

Each student will receive copies of all course materials and worksheets, including the book Best Practices in IT Asset and Software Management and other ECPweb publications.

Attend class and you’re eligible to sit for the exam. The exam is one hour (multiple choice and short answer questions) and 70 percent correct is a passing score. Students who do not pass the exam may take a second exam to be administered by the testing authority.
